Student Centered
Every learner begins from a different place. HBCU Prep AI™ helps students build an educational path based on academic needs, grade level, interests, goals, college aspirations, and future plans.
The Beginning
In 2012, educator Timothy D. Goler launched the HBCU Preparatory Schools Network in Cleveland, Ohio. The original model sought to apply strengths associated with Historically Black Colleges and Universities earlier in the educational journey.
Its foundation included nurturing student-centered environments, caring and invested educators, engaging learning experiences, cultural grounding, college preparation, and expectations of excellence.
That was the original 2012 formulation. Today, HBCU Prep AI™ also uses the modern expression Enroll. Persist. Graduate. Lead. to describe the longer journey students take after admission.
Institutional History
Before HBCU Prep AI, there was HBCU Prep.
In Cleveland, the HBCU Preparatory Schools Network began with a powerful idea: that the culture, expectations, relationships, and commitment to excellence associated with Historically Black Colleges and Universities could begin shaping children long before they reached college.
From the Archives: Portraits in Black History
In this archival television feature, Dr. Timothy D. Goler discusses the original vision behind HBCU Prep and the belief that the educational values associated with HBCUs could begin much earlier in a child's academic life.
This history matters because HBCU Prep AI did not begin as an idea about technology. It began as an idea about children, families, culture, academic excellence, identity, and possibility.
The Next Expression of the Mission
What began as a network of physical schools is now being reimagined for a new generation of families.
HBCU Prep AI carries forward the original commitment to cultural grounding, academic excellence, identity development, high expectations, family engagement, and preparation for college and life.
The difference is what is now possible.
Technology allows the HBCU Prep vision to reach families beyond a single school building or city. HBCU Prep AI combines that original educational philosophy with personalized learning technology to create a complete homeschool experience for students in grades 6 through 12.
The mission came first. The technology came later.
The question that started it
The original initiative asked what could happen if students encountered culture, confidence, high expectations, leadership, preparation, belonging, and community earlier in their education.
The HBCU Prep AI™ Promise
Every learner begins from a different place. HBCU Prep AI™ helps students build an educational path based on academic needs, grade level, interests, goals, college aspirations, and future plans.
Technology should strengthen human relationships rather than replace them. The platform supports parents, educators, mentors, counselors, coaches, and other adults who contribute to a young person’s development.
Students need more than worksheets and passive instruction. Learning experiences are designed to strengthen curiosity, confidence, skills, and academic momentum.
Students deserve an education connected to history, culture, achievement, identity, community, and possibility. HBCU Prep AI™ draws inspiration from the educational traditions and enduring legacy of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
Preparation extends beyond completing assignments. Students explore colleges, HBCUs, scholarships, careers, entrepreneurship, leadership, and opportunities after high school.
Students deserve high expectations and meaningful support. HBCU Prep AI™ helps students set goals, track progress, strengthen academic habits, and prepare for what comes next.
Enroll. Persist. Graduate. Lead.
Built from a longstanding vision
Education first. Technology second.
The delivery model has changed. The mission has not.
Founder, HBCU Prep AI™
“More than a decade ago, I launched the HBCU Preparatory Schools Network because I believed the strengths associated with the HBCU educational experience should begin long before a student arrives on a college campus.
Young people need academic preparation, cultural grounding, high expectations, leadership development, support, and a vision for what their lives can become.
HBCU Prep AI™ is the next chapter of that mission. Technology now gives us the ability to personalize the experience and reach families in ways that were not possible when the original vision was created.
The goal remains larger than college admission. We want students prepared to enroll, persist, graduate, and lead.”
